Meet the Writer : Leïla Slimani

  • BOZAR Henry Le Boeuf Hall Rue Ravenstein Bruxelles, Bruxelles, 1000 Belgium (map)

Leïla Slimani is one of the most influential voices in contemporary French literature. The French-Moroccan author will be at Bozar to discuss her latest novel, J’emporterai le feu, the final instalment in her trilogy, In the Country of Others [Le pays des autres].

J’emporterai le feu is a family chronicle spanning three generations. Set in the 1980s, the book revolves around the memories of Mia, a young novelist living in Paris, as she reflects on her family’s history. It is a poetic and powerful ending to Slimani’s intergenerational tale of women, freedom, and the struggle between tradition and identity. In conversation with journalist Safia Kessas, Slimani discusses her work and the complex relationships between women, family and society.

This event is part of the multidisciplinary festival Our Burning World: Echoes of Equality, which explores the many facets of gender in the Arab world. It is organized in the framework of Halaqat.
