"For these pictures I have used my own photographs of mostly modernist or brutalist architecture, and have attempted to cut away the surrounding clutter with scissors and paint. In doing so, I hope to reveal how these structures cut through and divide up physical space. I have recently become interested in exploring how these cutouts divide pictorial space. In more recent (and more colourful) work I follow self-imposed rules, for example, I only follow or extend lines and and angles which already exist within the photographic image." Jo Stanness
